Hi Everyone-
I can appreciate the fact that the library is a "lifeline" for Kay (and perhaps a way to make friends), but the vast majority of us have very little need for additional libraries. It would be interesting to see the number of people coming into libraries compared to years past(obviously adjusting for population growth), and segmented by visitors checking out books versus using the Internet. The cost to support the few is mind-blowing. My assumption is that most of us would rather see those dollars being applied to our schools to help improve education. Kay, what is your opinion on this?

The number of people coming to Douglas County Libraries reached 1.95 million in 2009. That was four percent more than 2008. In Douglas County over 185,000 people have a library card and they checked out almost 8 million books, DVDs, etc. The standard in public libraries is to use per capita numbers for annual data. So in 2009 we had 6.71 library visits per capita; 27 items were checked out (circulation) per capita and one use of the library PC's per capita. Douglas County Libraries are way ahead of the averages for these numbers in the U.S.

Hi Kay!
I have to agree with you! I love the library. Every time I've moved the library is one of the first places I have to find.
Yay Kay!
